An item composed of a compressible nonmetallic ring which may be loosely fitted into a noncompressible retaining ring, or may be of one piece construction with the compressible ring molded and/or mechanically connected to the retainer. It is specifically designed to form a fluid tight seal when compressed by a packing nut, gland, etc., between fixed surfaces and a cylindrical item passing through it. Excludes SEAL, PLAIN, ENCASED.
